New Season Starts for LSU Baseball

LSU’s Matt Gaudet, right, is greeted at the plate by Leon Landry after Gaudet’s solo home run in a five-run second inning against Florida in the SEC tournament Wednesday. The Advocate/Patrick Dennis

With a new season getting under way in Hoover, Alabama, it looks like the Tigers are in familiar territory, however I hope that we do not count our chickens before they hatch. It is long way to the end of the SEC Tournament and anything can happen. Having said that the game that LSU played against the top seated Florida Gators was something to see. Anthony Ranaudo looked like the player of old and the offense fed off that pitching performance with 19 hits and 10 runs to beat the Gators 10 – 6. Mason Katz, started, Austin Nola, and Blake Dean each had three hits to get the offense going. Matt Gaudet had a home run to the center of the field in the second inning. Katz who was a surprise starter and after falling behind 0 -2 he worked his back to even and hit the ball to center for two runs to come in (Leon Landry and Alex Edward). That gave the Tigers a 3 – 0 lead. The Tigers never looked back. And went on to win.

Anthony Ranaudo said after the game, “That was a nice change of pace for me. My last couple of starts, I had some bumps in the road in the first couple of innings. When I set the tone I the first inning, I knew my stuff was there.” Ranaudo has had a rough year with an injury and fighting his way back. He seems to have recovered physically and mentally and is ready to give the Tigers the pitching leadership that they have needed. Hopefully the bullpen will feed off of this and come together to get it done over the next few days.

Just remember we have a long weekend ahead of us and that we will have to take a wait and see approach as the Tigers move along.

In the mean time sit back and enjoy the SEC Tournament. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!
