On Easter Sunday I was at my cousin’s home is St Amant having a great time when two gentleman came over to say hello to my cousin’s husband, and low and behold I was in the presence of Merle Schexnaildre, one of the Chinese Bandits from the 1958 National Championship Team. For me it was a thrill of a life time. I grew up in Baton Rouge and Tiger Stadium. I remember hearing about the Chinese Bandits, Billy Cannon, and Paul Dietzel, like everyone did, but then to meet one of those who was actually part of it, was something you will never forget. Mr. Schexnaildre was wearing his Championship Ring with the L and diamond they were surrounded by Tiger Stadium. For most of my life LSU Sports has been a big part of my life and just to meet someone who made history playing a sport that brings people together to cheer and enjoy the accomplishment was just great. I know I sound like a blushing school girl, but it was a moment you want to remember for a life time. Thank you Merle Schexnaildre and all the Tigers of the 1958 Championship Team. Geaux Tigers!!!!!
